Snoozing to a Point
Whew! That game last night was…thrilling. So thrilling it took me almost 12 hours to scrape up my undead brain cells in able to post something – anything – about that game.
So here goes…a few questions that don’t really need an answer:
- How many of you were already penciling in that extra point the minute Curtis Joseph stepped onto the ice?
- And how many of you expected someone who is by all counts a step down from Martin flipping Gerber to come out and not only stone the Caps in the remaining minute of the game but also through five minutes of overtime and three shootout participants?
- Why is Tomas Fleischmann still getting 13-14 minutes of ice time a night?
- And how does John Erskine get three shots on goal to Flash’s one?
- Speaking of Erskine, how much longer does he need to play as well as he has before we start thinking his new contract is a steal? [CC's Note: I'm thinking a little longer...]
- One and a half power plays? Really?
- 45 shots on goal and only two go in? Really??
- Who looked paler and more sickly on the bench – Brooks Laich, Alexander Semin or Matt Bradley? Or was it an 18-player tie?
- Is it time for the playoffs yet?
C’mon! Brooks *always* looks that pale. Even my mother thinks he could use a few days at the beach. I think he does it on purpose. It makes those blues stand out even more.

Ovie’s goal was nice though…. I missed the Habs scoring just to watch the replay of Ovie’s goal on the other channel…. But really….Is it just or me are the Caps really that bad in shootouts? I was just thinking last night that I have never seen Kozlov actually score a shootout before…. not that I watch a lot of the Caps games…*pokes stupid Canadian stations* ..but still….

Actually Kozzy is pretty good at the SO, I’m not sure why he wasn’t in there last night though.

Really? So maybe the Caps just forget how to score when I watch them? *pouts*

EP – no it’s not you, kozzy is about the only one on the team who can score and he wasn’t chosen against toronto (well semin can too when he wants to)
i think backis could be good if given more of a chance. he had cujo beat if he could have lifted it a little higher. i like him better than ovie b/c he keeps it more simple.

I haven’t heard anything about Laich being ill — maybe just naturally pale, as jmu_capsgirl says.
As for Semin and Bradley, I’m sure they were still ill. No wonder Semin was probably not playing anywhere as well as he should. (And then someone posted on Tarik’s site that his son went to Florida during spring break, got to see a Caps game, and go in the locker room. He noticed that Semin was limping significantly.) The state of Semin’s health is less than optimal, obviously.

good job with the premature t-shirt sales. i think the penguins have just released the “our usual playoff victory against the caps” t-shirts a few days ago, too!

Anon: Well, as much as I’d love to take credit for that I actually personally have nothing to do with Caps’ merchandising. If I did, there would be no pink jerseys available for anyone over the age of 5.
Plus I’m pretty sure that while every team makes shirts like that (at least when they’re in the division hunt – how’s that Atlantic title looking for you guys?), these were not official t-shirts.
As for those Pens t-shirts? I’d hold off on them. Especially when “usual” means twice in the last thirteen years or so and you guys haven’t even clinched a playoff spot yet.
…*sigh* I need a troll exterminator.
